Increased Website Traffic
In my first blog I discussed the cost benefits of social media. This entry will focus on how a strong social media presence can increase traffic to a company website. Any business will likely tell you that increasing website traffic is extremely important to sustain success in today’s online driven market. When a business shares content on any social media platform, it gives potential customers an increased reason to peruse through their website. A company needs to create as many paths that lead to their website as possible. Without the help of social media, a business is relying solely on those who are already familiar with the brand, and those who happen to search keywords that are associated with the brand on search engines. All of this helps to increase the chance of conversion with a potential customer. A business will undoubtedly create more website traffic with quality and consistent content shared on social media platforms.
According to Pew Research Center, Nearly two-thirds of American adults (65%) use social networking sites, up from 7% when Pew Research Center began systematically tracking social media usage in 2005. (Perrin, 2015) Like it or not, social media is here to stay, and also have a major effect on website traffic. “According to a report released this week by content marketing hub Shareaholic, social media is now the #1 driver of all website referral traffic. As of December 2014, 31.24% of all referral traffic was from social media; compare this to the 22.71% from the same period in the previous year.” (DeMers, 2015) This statistic proves that social media marketing is vital to increasing website traffic. Marketing is always evolving, and right now social media marketing is king.
The previous paragraph shows just how many people use some kind of social media platform, and also the impact on website traffic it provides. If any business currently has a problem with traffic numbers to their website, it is clear that social media marketing is the number one way for a company to boost the traffic to their website. Consumers today are on social media quite often, and frequently providing them with quality content will immediately bolster website traffic numbers. At the end of the day all marketers and businesses care about is converting possible customers into actual customers. Leading a potential customer to the business website in as many paths as possible should be an important goal for businesses today, and currently today there is no better path than using social media.
